Presentation Abstract:

This presentation will address the Common Procedural Terminology (CPT) health insurance billing codes for adaptive behavior/ABA services: what they are, where they came from, and their intended use. Related terms and concepts (e.g, Qualified Health Care Provider, Medically Unlikely Edits, rounding rules, direct and indirect services) will also be discussed. Essential resources to help providers and payers implement the codes will be described, along with education and advocacy activities of the ABA Coding Coalition. Recent developments will be highlighted.

Participants will:

  1. State the significance of having Category I CPT codes for ABA services.
  2. Describe the types of services that are billable and non-billable.
  3. Name 3 resources that everyone who works with this CPT code set should have and consult frequently.
  4. List the participants and describe the aims of the ABA Coding Coalition.
